Betting on the Arlington Million

One of the things you should know about the Arlington Million is that it is a grade one horse race for animals age three and up, and is run in Arlington Park, Illinois. It was first run in 1981 and was the first to offer a prize purse of $1 million, hence its name. It almost didn't happen at all in 1985 when the stadium burned to the ground just one month prior to the event. In spite of this fact, nearly 35,000 people still showed up to watch, sitting on the grass in chairs and sleeping in pop tents. During that year, it became known as the Miracle Million. It is currently part of the International Festival of Racing, which includes 5 stakes, all of which can be wagered on.

The advent of online horse betting has made it much easier and more convenient for gamblers from around the world to place their bets without ever having to leave the comfort of their own homes. Many events, such as this one, actually allow players to place their bets months in advance.

One of the main reasons that animals compete in the event is that the winner is automatically guaranteed a place in the Breeders' Cup. While not Derby contenders, the Breeders' Cup is still one of the most prestigious sports run in the United States, with a collective prize purse totaling over $25 million. The Breeders' Cup is one of 14 races that are run over a course of two days.

The International Festival of Racing includes five event, including the Beverly D. Stakes for mares and fillies that has a $750,000 purse, the Secretariat Stakes for three year olds with a $500,000 stake, the American St. Leger, which boats a purse of $400,000, and the Hatoof Stakes, with a still respectable $75,000 purse. All of these take place on the Arlington Turf. Because of the high purse, the Arlington Million has attracted animals and owners from around the world since its inception.

While it still holds the name Arlington Million, after the two-year hiatus in live events in 1998 and 1999, it came back as part of the Emirates World Series of Racing. As of 2000, this event has offered a $2 million purse to its talented winner. While it is not as popular or as prestigious as it once was, animals and their owners from Europe still make the trip every year to run the turf.

Because of the sheer number of contenders that are entered each year, almost every wager placed has the potential for some form of pay off. Spending some time learning more about the Arlington Million online, as well as a number of other bet online horse racing events, can prove to be very profitable in the long run.
